| Because we found the values embedded in the structure of Facebook incompatible with the values of our station, the board of WIDE-LP radio voted unanimously to deactive our Facebook account. The reasons for the deactivation were given in the personal message to Mark Zuckerberg shown below. |
Mark Zuckerberg: We hold you personally responsible for structuring Facebook in a way that puts your corporate profits ahead of the welfare of Facebook users, particularly vulnerable children. We call on users worldwide to deactivate their Facebook accounts to demonstrate their strong disapproval of what you have done, including the following: 1. As shown by the March 2026 verdicts in the Meta trials in Los Angeles and New Mexico, you have been guilty of harming children by promoting their addiction to Facebook. 2. As detailed in her April 9, 2025 sworn testimony before a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, you have taken underhanded and unethical steps to silence criticism by Facebook whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams. 3. As revealed in the Wynn-Williams book, Careless People, you failed to respond to the misinformation and hate speech posts on Facebook in Myanmar which lead to the deaths of over 24,000 Rohingya Muslims during the 2016–2019 genocidal attacks by the Myanmar military and others. There is much more than can be said. For a fuller understanding of your wrongdoing, we urge all Facebook users to read Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams, to watch the C-Span video of her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee at https://www.c-span.org/program/senate-committee/meta-whistleblower-testifies-on-facebook-practices/658354, and to read the transcript of that hearing at https://www.techpolicy.press/transcript-former-exec-sarah-wynnwilliams-testifies-on-facebooks-courtship-of-china/.
